The Kansas Mennonite Men's Chorus (KMMC) was organized in 1969, with an initial membership of 140 men.
By our second year the chorus had increased its size to more than 500
and has since remained over 300. The largest membership was over 540 in
1978.
The organization of the group is guided by a Steering Committee
that meets throughout the year. One or two Spring Concerts are prepared annually. In preparation for our concerts, area
rehearsals are held in various locations with local directors, followed
by two or three mass rehearsals under the direction of Director Ron Garber.
KMMC has also given concerts out of state; appearing in Colorado,
Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Manitoba,
Canada.

In 2000 part our membership, along with their wives,
participated in a European tour, giving concerts in The Netherlands,
Germany, and Switzerland.
In August 2002, members of the chorus toured
the Canadian Rockies giving concerts at Calgary, Tofield and Edson,
Alberta; and at Kelowna, Abbortsford and Chilliwack British Colombia.
In Summer, 2004, 58 of our number (along with our wives)
toured California and Oregon for 11 days. We began our tour on August 1
in the L.A. area, assisting worship at the Crystal Cathedral and that
evening a concert at Upland. Our tour ended at Salem, OR, on August 11.
All in all, the tour was a success and a great witness to our Lord was
given.
The
chorus was originally organized as an arm of the Mid-Kansas MCC Relief
Sale. MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) is an organization of Mennonite
churches that provides world relief and does community development work
in under developed areas around the world.
Offerings taken at concerts are donated to MCC. The
singers pay for music and other expenses, making it possible for all
offerings to be channeled directly to the hungry of the world. Our membership's commitment to the ideals of the chorus is reflected in our motto:
"We Sing That Others May Live."
Dr.
David H. Suderman was first KMMC director. Dr. Paul W. Wohlgemuth was
the conductor from 1973 until his tragic death in 1987. Jona Baltzer
conducted the chorus from 1987 through 1996. Ron Garber began directing
the chorus in 1997.
KMMC
members come from a variety of churches with the majority from some 50
Mennonite churches representing 8 Mennonite denominations. Several
non-Mennonite denominations are represented as well. we represent a
cross section of ages from late pre-teens to 97, and a wide range of occupations and professions, including
the fields of agriculture, industry, education, medicine, religion, and
business.
Each member joins because of his ability and love for
singing, enjoyment of fellowship, concern for the hungry of the world,
and a desire to communicate the Christian faith through singing.
